What You'll Learn

This course equips new entrants with the knowledge and skills to join the VIC security industry. It runs over 10 days in a blended/face-to-face format, with some learning completed online before course commencement.

Career Outcomes

As a Security Officer you'll perform routine patrols, protect property, screen individuals, monitor behaviour, and escort or remove persons from premises — all without the use of arms.

Delivery Format

Course Details

Eligibility requirements, duration, units and more

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply for a VIC security licence.
  • Must have completed the approved training requirement. Note: training must be valid within 12 months of your licence application to Victoria Police LRD.
  • Provide an identification reference from an acceptable referee who has known you for at least 12 months.
  • Not be a prohibited person.
  • Provide current VIC address documentation (e.g. VIC Driver's Licence) when applying for a security licence.
  • Provide a full set of fingerprints as part of the application process.
  • Provide certified copies of international police checks for any country resided in for 12+ months over the past 10 years since age 16 (if applicable).
  • Australian/New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Australian Resident with full current working rights.
  • Provide 100 points of Identification (e.g. Driver's Licence, Passport).
  • Must have both training (FIRST AID + CPP20218) and meet general suitability criteria — be a "fit and proper person" (assessed by police including criminal history).
  • If you answer 'Yes' to any medical history questions, you must provide a medical report from your treating doctor supporting your suitability.
  • Must be able to actively participate in practical security and first aid scenarios including performing CPR on a manikin on the ground. Contact us before booking if you have physical challenges.
  • LRD may be contacted for further information regarding eligibility.
  • Course training runs over 10 days, with blended/face-to-face delivery and supported learning outside the classroom.
  • You must complete pre-course online learning before training commences.
  • During training, complete supported online learning and other activities (a combination of paper-based and online).
  • Student support provided before and after class: 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM.
  • Focus Areas: Orientation, Legal Frameworks, WHS, Communication, Risk, Conflict, Patrols, and First Aid.
  • Daily Times: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM (with breaks).

Once you have registered online, you will need to:

  • Complete the online Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment. You may also attend the Brunswick office in person to complete this.
  • Demonstrate strong English language and literacy skills — reading, writing, speaking and understanding.
  • Provide 100 points of Identification when making an application for enrolment.
  • Have a USI (Unique Student Identifier) number — www.usi.gov.au.
  • Have access to a portable computer with a reliable internet connection for pre-course and in-course online components.
  • Ensure any remaining fees are paid before course commencement.
